The main purpose in this set is to get stealth rock out. Once you have the rocks out, explode away or try to wreak havoc with meteor mash, bullet punch, or earthquake. Rotom appliances and faster taunters really hurt this set. The debate between bullet punch and earthquake is all depending on your team. If you're needing a priority move badly then obviously go with bullet punch.

Metagross is one of the few pokemon who is fine with having basically any nature and can do well with that nature. Metagross high attk and defences makes its spa stat seem useless. But do not be fooled, even with 95 base special attk this baby can do some damage on the opposing team if they do not know what set it is running. Psychic if for stab, Hidden Power Fire hits common OU steel types, Grass knot is for Swampert and Vaporeon, while trick cripples special walls such as Blissey and Latias who may try to set up on you once they know your a special sweeper.

Explosion could also be a good option instead of trick, in that case you should run mild nature.

Anti Lead Masher

Held Item: Lum Berry/Occa Berry
Ability: Clear Body
Nature: Adament
Evs: 232 hp, 252 attk, 24 spe

Now without Stealth Rocks taking 1 of your important slots, u dont have to decide between earthquake and meteor mash when u can just have both. This can almost beat every lead in OU, the only one that resist it is Bronzong, but even that is destroyed by explosion. Meteor mash/Earthquake and bullet punch will knock out focus sash leads every time such as Azelf, Infernape, Aerodactyl, Empoleon etc..... Explosion knocks out the more bulky leads such as Swampert and Hippowdon and stops then from getting up rocks.

Both item choices serve a important role. Lum Berry deals with sleep inducing leads such as Roserade, Breloom, Smeargle, Bronzong, and Yanmega, as well as letting u beat anti lead machamp without confusion issues. Occa Berry on the other hand helps u deal with Lead Azelf, Heatran, and Infernape.

The evs give Metagross some bulk. 24 speed evs allow you to outspeed standard lead Metagrosses and lead Empoleons.

i usualy go with leftovers and a fire absorbing pokemon rather than occa tbh it workes better and gives your metta a longer survival rate for it to be your priority killer.
this moveset is devistating to aero lead (bullet punch)
most physical leads canot 2hko let alone 1hko (100% stealth rock set up and probably anuff hp from lefties and bulkyness for an exspload or more)
azelf is the bigest threat to mettagross's life but with good prediction (they will use stealth rocks or flamethrower so use stealth rocks or switch if you think they will use flame thrower) with fire absorb pokemon you gain a free switch in and possibly a kill.
